The illumination — free, every night
The falls are lit every night from sunset to 2 am (1 am Dec–Feb). Colors cycle every 15 min through a programmed sequence — pure white, blue, green, red, purple, gold. The sequence is timed by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board.
Best viewing spot: Table Rock terrace, directly above the Horseshoe Falls. Walk five minutes south of the brink for an angle that captures the entire curve. Free, no ticket needed.
Fireworks — May 15 through October 12, 2026
Nightly at 10 pm during summer season. 5-minute show normally; extended 9-minute shows on July 1 (Canada Day) and July 4 (US Independence Day).
- Best Canada-side viewing: Queen Victoria Park (south of Table Rock), or the Horseshoe Falls overlook
- Best US-side viewing: Prospect Point
- Premium: a fallsview hotel room — the Niagara Fallsview Hotel, Embassy Suites, and Marriott Fallsview have rooms with direct fireworks views from the window

Clifton Hill — neon energy until midnight
Two blocks of bright lights, midway games, haunted houses, mini-golf, the SkyWheel (53m observation wheel), Movieland Wax Museum, and the Niagara SkyWheel. Most attractions stay open until 11 pm or midnight on summer weekends. Best for kids 8+ and groups looking for arcade-style fun.
Skip if you want a calm romantic evening — the noise and crowds are intentional. The street is two blocks east of the falls, walkable from any fallsview hotel.
Skylon Tower — dinner with the view
The 160m observation tower has a revolving dining room that completes one rotation per hour. Reserve a window seat at sunset for the best transition from daylight falls → illuminated falls during your meal. Last seating around 9:30 pm.
Cheaper alternative: the observation deck without the meal — about $20 CAD per adult. Also lit at night with the same view.
Casinos — Fallsview & Casino Niagara
Fallsview Casino Resort — large, upscale, fallsview rooms attached. Open 24h. Concert venue (Avalon Theatre) hosts touring acts; check the calendar.
Casino Niagara — older, smaller, two blocks from Clifton Hill. Less polished, more casual. Also 24h.
Late-night walk along the Parkway
One of the underrated experiences in Niagara: walk the Niagara Parkway between Table Rock and the Hornblower dock after 10 pm. The fireworks crowd thins by 10:30, the illumination is at full strength, and the path is well-lit. About a 25-minute walk one way.
FAQ
What time do they light up the falls?
The illumination starts at sunset and runs until 2 am year-round (1 am from December to February). Colors change every 15 minutes through a programmed sequence — pure white, then through the rainbow. Best viewing: Table Rock on the Canada side or Prospect Point on the US side. No tickets required, free.
When are the fireworks at Niagara Falls?
In the 2026 season, fireworks run nightly at 10 pm from May 15 through October 12. Extended 9-minute shows on July 1 (Canada Day) and July 4 (US Independence Day). Best viewing from Table Rock (Canada) or Queen Victoria Park. Show length is normally 5 minutes.
Is Clifton Hill worth visiting at night?
Yes if you have kids or want carnival energy — wax museums, haunted houses, neon-lit arcades, and the SkyWheel observation wheel are all within a two-block stretch. Skip if you want a quiet evening. It runs late (most attractions until 11 pm or midnight in summer).
Can you see the falls illuminated for free?
Yes. The illumination itself is free and visible from every public viewpoint along the Niagara Parkway — Table Rock, Queen Victoria Park, the Hornblower dock area, and from across the river on the US side. No tickets, no entry fee. Bring a jacket; the mist makes it feel cool even in summer.
What restaurants are open late in Niagara Falls Canada?
Skylon Tower revolving restaurant serves until 10 pm, Watermark by the Falls until 11 pm, the Casino Niagara restaurants until midnight or later, and Clifton Hill diners run latest (some 24h in summer). Most fallsview hotel restaurants close by 10 pm. Reserve fallsview seating in advance — they fill 2–3 weeks out for weekend evenings.
Is Niagara Falls Canada safe at night?
Yes — the tourist district (Niagara Parkway, Clifton Hill, fallsview hotel strip) is well-lit, busy, and police-patrolled. Standard precautions apply for any tourist area. The walking paths along the Niagara Parkway are popular until late, and rideshares are easy. Avoid wandering away from the lit areas after midnight.
